There are many different brands of foundation on the market. Each major cosmetic company has different types, from tinted moisturisers to heavier cream bases. Different foundations give you different results. Here is a list of what these products can do for you.
Luminizing Foundations
Is a sheer foundation, with a slight amount of shimmer already mixed into the product, usually for a dewy finish. Great for dry skin types, can look a little oily on oily skin types.
Primers
Are moisturisers with a little shimmery pigment in them, the shimmer illuminates your skin and the moisturiser prepares it, ready for your foundation?
Tinted Moisturisers
Have a small amount of foundation pigment in them, recommended to use if you want a light, sheer cover or if your skin is even-toned and you don’t need a heavy, pigmented foundation.
Liquid Foundations
Can be water or oil-based, they are light and creamy in texture and provide a light to medium coverage. Use a damp sponge or foundation brush, for an even application.
Cream Foundations
Cream foundations are almost always oil based. They provide a medium to full coverage that can cover the discolouration of most blemishes, and some pigmentation problems of the skin. If you suffer form breakouts, using a product like this can make it worse as your skin doesn’t get a chance to breathe, and is not able to clear itself up. Suits drier or uneven skin types, if using a powder to set foundation, watch the creasing under the eyes (too much powder shows up in any fine lines.
Powder Compacts
Consist of very fine milled powder, pressed into a compact; it can be used wet or dry. They provide a medium coverage and can be applied with a sponge or a large powder brush. It can sometimes be too drying and emphasize wrinkles, especially around the eyes.
Loose Powder
Is usually packaged in a jar or tub and is designed to set a foundation base, it has a light, airy feel and should be applied with a powder puff, so to set your foundation with more staying power or a large powder brush to matte down a more natural, lighter look.
Wet and Dry Compacts
Are similar to powder compacts and are designed to be applied with a damp sponge for a lighter coverage that dries to a powder finish.
Bronzing Powders
Come in shimmery or matte shades, so depends if you want to look shimmery and bronzed or you just want to darken your skin tone so you don’t look too washed out, especially in winter. For summer nights a bit of shimmer looks fabulous.
